Picked up a 94 Polaris 4x4 for the wife to ride. It's been sitting for like 3 years. It's a two stroke. The oil res is full. Should I drain in and refill with new oil due to it sitting for so long?

I would drain and replace the just for the purpose of putting fresh oil in. I would also check the oil filter and check for leaks in the lines. And if there was any gas left in the tank drain it as well because it well gum up your jets and float bowl in your carb. You might even want to clean the carb.

I had planned on going through the carb because I've seen some ugly stuff after sitting a while. The think actually runs really well for never being run. I just wasn't sure about the oil.

I wouldn't trust the oil pump. They are kown to go bad and fry the engine. Disconnect that bad boy and mix the fuel. You are better off.

You can rebuild/replace it, but, it WILL go bad again. Ditch it and get a 4 stroke.

Believe me, I would love to get her a four stroke but I got a screaming deal on this thing and its almost like New. Just over 1000 miles. It's mint.

yep I never trust the oil injection systems after I rebuilt my Ski-Doo Formula plus 583 I always pre-mixed the gas just because I didn't just put all that $ and work into it just to burn the MF up because the oil injection quit working not worth it man!
Mix it don't trust it!

Yea, I know. I was kinda hoping someone would say" those Polaris oil systems are great! They never fail". LOL. I know I should mix it but I've always hated that.

I ditched the oil injection on my 400 scrambler, the kit for doing it can be had cheap on ebay. And mixing fuel is kids stuff.. lol
Get yourself a mixing bottle to measure your oil. (or a cup like the one above) It makes life a lot simpler.

Also don't be fooled that 4 strokes are better than 2 strokes.. I hate when people make those insinuations. They both have their faults, but neither is really better than the other.

My brother's 400 sport is 2 stroke. Hasn't had any problems with the oil injection at all.
Well it's not that they don't work good, but they do fail. If it happens to fail while your out riding, well you'll be doing a topend job.

I think that blocking off the pump, and mixing your fuel is a the best way to save your motor from lean conditions.

Have you ever actually had one fail? I haven't, pull the nipple out of the carb and jb it in the carb because it will come out.

I run the auto oiler on everything but blasters because I modded them.
