Have you ever actually had one fail? I haven't, pull the nipple out of the carb and jb it in the carb because it will come out.

I run the auto oiler on everything but blasters because I modded them.
The one on my little 80cc bigwheel **** the bed... But I didn't even pull it out to see what was wrong with it, I just started dumping mixed fuel into her.. lol

Exactly, never seen a documented case of one failing, on a blaster of a Polaris and ive had tons of em in and out the shop, although I do clean em out everytime I get one with a blown motor.

Yah I guess it's all in your personal preference?
Do you wanna mix fuel, or not.. I personally don't trust them, and would rather mix fuel than do a piston swap.

You both make very good points. Wasn't trying to start an argument......I'm not sure what to do yet. I've never had one fail on me personally but I know it does happen. I'm gonna check the system that's on it to see what shape its in. I'll go from there. Thanks for the advice!

I know of one personally and have several friends that work on quads that have found them bad before. Maybe it is from sitting? Because most people around here let them sit all year until hunting season comes around.

I should add one more thing..
If you ditch the oil injection you can run a better after market carb on a polaris 400, like a keihin PWK/PWM 39 or 40.
The stock 38 Mikuni TMX isn't the worst carb ever made, but their nothing special.

I have found that the intake boots and tubes like to dry rot on them...
Mine is starting to crack, I was thinking of getting a new one, and try'n to talk the wife into a PWM 40mm.

I want a PWM 40 for the 490 as well. It needs a new carb worse than the Scrambler does.

This one is not gonna be a build up project. Just a good easy to ride reliable quad for the wife to ride. It seems to run great right now I just want to clean it up and get it running good so she won't have to worry about it.

I will check the intake boots and stuff when I start the work on it this weekend. Are replacement boots avail?

Oh yah.. Decent used ones can be had fairly cheap on ebay. But you would have to go to a dealership for a new one, and it wouldn't be cheap.

Also if you drain out the old injection oil, I suggest just siphoning it out. The holding tank is actually part of the molded coolant reservoir, and it's a bitch to take apart. Amsoil HP injector oil is the best stuff I've found to run in there. It's a bit thinner, and seems to work really well with the polaris oil injection system. The reservoir also holds 2 liters (quarts) FYI..

Ok thanks for the info! Sounds like siphoning will be the way to go then. I have always used amsoil in all my two stoke stuff so thats what is gonna get filled with.
