problems with reverse

every time i put my quad in reverse it shuts the engine off and its done it with both my engines. i was told by the local yamaha shop that theres no safety shut off or anything. ive checked to make sure no wires were cut and they are all ok so anyone with any ideas on what the problem may be or know anything i can check?

Mine did this as well. From what I remember there is a connector under the front hood that is unplugged.

I thought it was a bad ground at the lever that caused this, I could be wrong though.
