What are the goods and the bads of these two compared I have an 87 and I feel like I have a slight edge on the second gen guys no offense but everyone I have raced on a second gen It just seems like I'm a little faster. I know the whole deal with the a arms on the first gens not a lot of aftermarket ones available but is there really any other Diffrences? I have heard some people say the newer ones are more of a sport utility than first gens but Idk so I'm asking?
NO TROLLS PLEASE IF ANYTHING I SAID OFFENDS YOU I DONT CARE LOL IM ASKING BECAUSE I DONT KNOW I WANT UNBIAST INFO:argh:

:thanks:
No :bs: please

motor wise they are all the same besides flywheel and stators and of course the decomp lever on the head but cc's are same
only real other difference is the 1st gen swing arm is an inch longer
and then of course the electrical
if your faster than the 2nd gens that you speak of what size sprockets are on your 87?and what size's are on your 2nd gen buddies that will be the determining factor on why your faster

Well right now I'm actually geared down I have 20 inch tires instead or 22 and 1 inch wider and he is running stock gears I'm getting ready to bump up to a 14 tooth in the front tho I don't understand it really maybe his just doesn't like what he has put it through
I have an 87
He has a 02

well having the smaller tires will make you quicker out of the gate but if he is running 22's then he should have you in the top end

Then I'm not sure I just leave him in the dust all together like I said maybe he just isn't as nice to his as I am to mine I think he needs some maintenance and redo his engine then

1st gens handle better because of the a-arm geometry. thats bout it.

Dbaltard is yours bored over with a exhaust? A modded warrior will beat a stock warrior plain and simple

How about rider weight? Also, don't let your damn head swell but you could just be outriding him. Personally I think they're both great machines. I give the 2nd gen a slight edge for two reasons, 1) control arm availability and 2) available off the shelf CDI's. Ask Pat, I'm sure he'll agree, otherwise there are only cosmetic differences once you get beyond the front suspension geometry and electrical.

I do indeed. Although, I prefer the handling of the 1st gen. And, the wiring harness/cdi is almost a mute point anymore. You can swap over the electronics from a 97-02 easily enough, and run a performance cdi. It's the a arms that suck sheep's balls.

Well my bike didnt really have any performance mods at the time the only thing I have now is the airbox the clutch and the pen spring cap thing maybe it is me idk lol it just seems like when I ride with him my bike handles things easier

I had an 87 and my neighbor has a 02. They were basically set up about the same and we both agreed that they seemed to ride about the same. We are about the same size and in a race it all depended on who got the better launch. He swapped out rear sprockets to a lower gearing and would leave me at the line but by the time he was in 6th gear I was just hitting 4th and i would pass him by. The only advantage I could see was that if you were going to leave your stock a arms on the bike is that the 87s are replaceable. Personally I think both gens are great. The only reason I bought an 87 was it was too good a deal to pass up.

Yeah I got mine for 600 the dude thought he blew it and he told me it ran just fine he just didn't want it. Got it home got a new battery and tires and it wouldn't run it would start sputter and die. Retard overfilled the oil by like 2 quarts so it filled the breather box and when I tried to take off the oil sucked through the carb and killed it

The rockers are different through the years. I know the newer the quad the lighter the rocker. In 05 the raptor rocker arms are different and much lighter which is where part of the gain in power in the raptors are.

Other then that they are same motor minus pull start, and the decomp levers.

The entire front of the frame is biff weeny from the down tube forward. And the rear carrier and calipers are different. Along with the electronics.

All in all they are too similar ride wise for me to tell apart. That being said after changing the a arms on a second gen they can be setup to handle however you like. I like mine to be light on the bars with the wheels lagged in a degree for bite on hard pack since we have red clay here.

To each their own but I like having a tail light and a 02 harness they seem to give less issues.
