Ive come to the conclusion that parts are not plentyful for my 88 so im thinking about swapping to newer electronics ie harness ignition ect. Now from reading on here the motors are the same and what sets them aside is the flywheel and (brain fart) the part with the pickup coil. Please correct me if im mistaken.

If I understand it correctly am I limited to certain years? And what years seem to be the best to have.

Is there anything else I would need?

If anyone has a link to this info please post it and id be happy to read it

Is the flywheel different? Humm. It might be now that you mention it. Never thought about that.

I think all you need to do is get a whole harness and slap in on. From controls back to the rectifier.

Brain fast is the stator. Its technically the same but has different connectors.

Ive read on here that when someome swapped a different yr motor the flywheel needed to be swapped with the stator.

So if everything is the same can any CDI be used if I wire it myself? Wiring doesnt bother me at all.

wiring for these goes
87 has 2 pick ups
88-89 has 2 pick ups
90-95 1 pick up
96 1 pick up
97-01 1 pick up
02-04 1 pick up

so for any year that has 1 pick up you will to change the rotor/flywheel to one of the years that also has 1 pick up

the 96 stator will work with 97 - 01 harness

Im probably one of them you read of swapping the flywheel. Yours would be a 2 pickup coil stator and most of the years after yours a single pickup coil stators. There different enough that most need to be swapped.
