Hey everyone has to keep the best stuff secretive. Btw, what color panties you wearing? LOL! Little drunk here! That's pretty much what they would spend most of their time on, I gather, when my dad was our age. Those 2ndarys.

So have you found a carb? I have about 6 of em sitting on the shelf down in the garage. You looking for an early one or late one?

Q-Jets are all I run. I have one on my 383 in my 84 short bed and love it!!

I'm interested in one midway. We have one for dad's 59 apache, but I'm needing on for my 49. Still a LONG way from building the engines, but would like to get what I can while I can. What sizes you got? As long as it is not an emissions carb I'm interested.

My boy and I are going riding in the morning. When I get back I will shoot some pics of what I have and the numbers on them. I think they are all 750's. I don't think I have any emissions ones other than for parts.

oh and gen1 when i get me one and start modding i'll take pics for you in case you want to try it

That'd be cool. You explanation above was pretty easier to follow. Pics are always cool.

Thanks. My dad read what you do, and said, "print that **** out!" He remembers Pace Carburators shop used to do some drilling back in the day, but they wouldn't devulge their secrets. So my dad and his friends where left to do stuff the OLD fashioned way. Which made great power.

for sure! i'll see if i can fins a web site that a guy did a write up on the hole drilling that i do. and another easy simple mod is a weight/spring kit in the distributor! i finally got my new points distributor in the mail! waiting on my weight kit and wires. rodding the MSD blaster 2 coil off the yoter

Using a points distributer, now that's just plain coolness. My dad is going to find a duel point dist for his truck. Going as old school as he can. Will be a walk in the park for him to set up the dist and carb. I was tellin weston, it is really something to watch him set timing and tune carbs by ear. Put a timing light on it after he gets done and it'll only be off by a degree or two. 47 years of experiance is a force to be reckoned with!

well the truck came with points! i can tune points more than a HEI and i like being able to tune lol! i grew up poor... never could afford a timing light so i do it all by ear

Good luck with the carb project WG, most times it seems like we veer towards what we're brought up with, my Dad is a 4150 Holley man so I evolved towards Demon carbs. Real nice IMO, I will say I've always loved the way the ole Qjet sounds when it comes in, lol!

WG, you can tune an HEI pretty much the same as a points setup as far as timing and centrifugal advance go. Mainly with those they need a good performance module installed. With a stock points setup you need to up the wiring to the distributor, stock points stuff is too small if you upgrade too an HEI. HEI has a much better stock coil as well, honestly about as good as any aftermarket upgrade for a points type. iff you're going for nostalgia I understand.

i just like points :) and i have a badass coil to power it (coil completely burnt up a set of v-power plugs in under 2k miles) i have to run iridium plugs to get any kind of life out of em. HEI gets into the same boat as fuel injection in my book
