i noticed when i removed my front plastics the other day there is some sort of a lever on the top of the jug.i tried to research this and looked at many motors on the net and havent seen one with this does anyone know what it may be?ill try to get a pic in the next day or so.

its a 96 or 97 so i was told all i have is a bill of sale for it.when its running ilifted the lever and it sounded like lifters were hittting it definatly a metal on metal sound.ill have a picture tomm.

Just by looking at the picture you have for your profile picture you can tell that it has the pull start so either you have a 96 or 97 frame with the older motor thats has the pull start and decompression lever or the person before you put the pull start and head off the older warrior so it could be pull started.

or maybe the starter clutch went out on his liek mine di and it was replaced with a pull start, then the decomp valve, ive been needing the deocomp vavle sice, ive just been pullling my warrior over without it to strt it, and that was with the old rings, i cant imagine how hard it will be after i finsih rebuilding

yikes!!! i think that metal on metal was your piston against the exhaust valve! dont do that hahaha (im suprised it didnt stall tho if that was the case)

heres a few pics

thats a decompression arm for the pull start... looks like you have an older motor on there because the black stator cover and pull start were only on the early years of the warrior

i believe it works by holding the valves open a little so it is easier to pull.....

so if i was to start it using the lever i would only open it a little rather than wide open"metal on metal sound"?its hard to pull start and my elec start just stopped working all the sudden.also i noticed the older warriors have square headlights i have round lights.not sure if they are interchangeable or not though.

you have 2nd gen plastics too. I just think that you have an older engine in a newer frame. Yeah, that's the decomp lever for pull starting.

is there a way to tell the year of the engine?so do i open the lever a little or wide open to start it?i dontn wanna ruin anything

Flick the lever open as much as it goes, it should stay like that untill you pull it. You'd have to repeat the process for each pull. Yeah there should be a cable and small decomp lever for it. I actually have an extra decomp lever off my YZ that might work, youd have to buy a cable though.

to me it just looks like you got a pull start and decomp lever added on, the warriors that came stock with pul start (87,88) had a black engine, the newer ones had only black jug/clyinder head (painted of course) you got the original engine, just some other parts added on
