how hard would it be to take apart the rear axle and repaint it?

Not hard at all. It might be a wast of time though. You only can paint the two shafts and I would imagine that the paint would look like crap after just a few rides. How about polishing it? Or trying out the leather belt trick.

the paint comes off QUICK. I painted mine when I replaced my bearings, the housing looks good still but I always have to touch up the axle. I wish I would have never painted it.

in my opinion its a waste of time. i did it to mine when i had it apart and one hard trail ride had it lookin scuffed and scratched up...

whats that?

yes powder coat would stand up alot better than regular spray paint. i paint for a factory that uses powder coat. it comes out as a powder and is givin an electric charge which makes it stick to the bare metal part, it goes through an oven at 350-400 degrees and once it cools its as hard as a rock and looks just as good as spray paint. its also hard as hell to chip if its applied the right way.
