While doing a valve adjustment today, I noticed the cam timing seems to be retarded some. The only info I have about the engine is the seller mentioned that a 380 bore was done. Other than that didn't say anything else. Said the work was done at the local dealer. The kid didn't seem to be mechanically inclined, so I don't think he would have messed with it.

Here's the pics.

Instead of this mark being label "T", it has an "F". It's the only mark I saw though.

Yep the timing is retarded one tooth. I would for sure put it back to stock and there is a T mark on the flywheel (after the F mark), the F mark is just where the pickup coil is picking up signal for the CDI box to tell the coil when to fire the spark plug.

Take the timing chain tensior out of the cylinder and then you will be able to adjust your cam timing.

If there is a T after the F, then timing may be ok as the second pic (case) is of the mark lined on the F. So that is where the cam mark sits with the crank F mark lined up. I'll go back and look for the T mark and check the cam mark again, then redo my valve adjustment if needed.

Thanks.

After messing with it again, I find the T and lined it up, but it was still off, so I went about setting the timing. I was only able to get it to within a 1/2 tooth off. I ended up leaving it slightly advanced.

Seems to run better now except I have a heavy bog under full throttle and back fire under decel. Looks like I'll have to find out how to pull the jets out and see what's in there, then buy a jet pack and start messing with that.

The previous owner may have retarded the timing to give it more top end. More advance will give you more low end and midrange.

That post before yours was made on may 17, 2008, i bet he has got it figured out by now lol

Haha its alright i did it alot and got bitch at alot for it when i first came here lol
