Hi all.
I am new to this thread and from Kalgoorlie, Australia. I stumbeled across the site when finding info on my 2001 warrior. I am looking at pulling her down for a minor rebuild. I was looking at pulling it back to bare frame and re powder coat and then replace all bushes/shocks and there seems to be an oil leak underneath motor(need a closer look) so was considering a gasket set. Also at full throttle the clutch might be slipping but only at full revs??? I thought if it was a stuffed clutch it would do it all throttle positions????? So other things would be changed while doing this but providing time is taken and follow manual are the gaskets/clutch easy enough to chage out. I work on my 4x4 all the time but nothing internally on the motor. Also i have noticed in America on ebay your gear is more than half the price than ours would any of u guys recommend any internet shopping places that sells gear at a reasonable price??? Other option is to sell her and buy a new one but where is the fun in that ;D

Thanks in Advance

Chris

Welcome :D

Kalgoorlie huh? Thats definitely an 'interesting' area of WA ;) I've been around your Country a few times (my wife is from Sydney). As a result, I have Bundy Rum and Ginger beer, Milo, Tim Tams, and leftover Shepherds Pie in the house at all times... LOL

I generally recommend replacing all gaskets when doing a rebuild, kind of stupid not to if youre going through all that. Do you plan on splitting the case as well? If so, I highly recommend HondaBond for reassembly.

When a clutch is going out, usually its starts to slip at high rpm or high torque situations, not unusual at all. Chances are the stack height is a little short, and you may only need to replace just the fiber plates, the steel plates may be fine.

What kind of gear are you looking for? OEM parts? Riding gear?

Now, if I could only figure out how to import a Ute SS to America.... ;)

Thanks for the reply Griff. From what u said i might bight the bullet and chage clutch why its off the road. Im still deciding whether to split the case. Would u recomend splitting case if all seems good with everything other than leaks. As for parts im chasing some stuff like clutch suspension rubbers and bits and pieces plus aftermarket bars and pipes. As for the Ute i know they are know selling the new SS over there rebadged but not as SS

If all else seems good, and the leak(s) isnt coming from a case-seam, then no reason to split the case. I just asked, because I didnt know how much of a rebuild you were planning.

Only reason to split the case otherwise is if youre replacing transmission and/or crank bearings or cam-chain.

If those are likely fine, just do the usual gaskets for the pan and covers, cylinder base and head too. On the clutch, as I mentioned, you may only need new fiber plates, those are what wear out 1st. The steel plates may be OK, so you can save yourself some money by only getting the fiber plates, rather than both.

I'll have to check to see if any of the US parts places will ship overseas, most wont unfortunately.

I wish GM would import the Ute here, but I read as of April this year, they have no plans to do so. Kind of a shame, theyre cool cars.
