Rev counter

Hi guys

I was thinking of sticking a rev counter on my bike for a bit of a project and a laugh

Something like seen here:

Before anyone says anything I'm not interested in getting ripped off with one of these 'trail tech vapor' things.

It appears that the rev counters tend to come with +ve, ground and then another wire which I presume goes to the coil?
Does anyone have any experience of fitting one of these?

If i remember correctly theres 3 or 4 wires, one goes to the coil, one ground, and one is a power wire for the light and the 4th im drawing a blank if there is a 4th wire. Its been awhile since ive wired a tachometer up, I can look up the wire diagram i have for my tach's if you need.

Do you think one of this kind of tachos would work on an atv?

Im not sure how it would work. Only way to find out is test it haha. Ive only installed these in my trucks and baja bug, ive thought about putting one on my pit bike and quad just for fun but never done it.

If it will work on a motorcycle, it "should" work on an atv. The description tells what the wires are for.

Ibjamm, I thought the same but I am just unsure what the 3rd wire does? Does it fix to the coil and then count the times the current is sent to the spark plug?

i know its probably not what your going for but i have a little hardline hour/tach unit on my bike. its pretty bitchin for service intervals and tuning. think i paid about $20 for it.

On that one you need to hook up the signal wire to the signal feed going to the coil not the actual plug wire now that 4th wire could be your 12v for back light or it could be an optional wire for using tach in a car with a multiple spark ignition box like an msd unit it will work just fine done it one time...

CJ, think i will get something similar to keep track of hours but i really wanted a rev counter with a needle cos i think they look awesome!!

Hobbyguy, yeah i understand that the 4th and 5th wire are for a back light which you can wire to headlight switch so it lights up in the dark

Yeah they look awesome in the night time! I will give you a small tip unless its a marine grade dont get it wet thats what broke mine!
