i think the shifter on my 97 warrior is not the right one.can somebody post a close up pic of thier shifter?ive seen a few pics and ive tried to zoom in and see but it gets blurry and i cant really tell hot its set up.my shifter is actually attached to the footpeg is this correct?

yupp, that's the stock shifter. (check out Gasmans pics) Its a link type set-up. Its a wise and cheap mod to switch it to a YZ250 direct shifter.

What?!?! gasman was running a stock shifter on his badass racing warrior?? Is he high lol

I'm interested in making this upgrade as well. Can someone post a link of one for sale so i dont snag up the wrong one. Also is the shifter the only thinkg that is needed to install? Thanx

Yes the shifter is the only thing needed to do this well and the bolt to hold it on of coarse.

Here is one from ebay. there are many more just have to take a look at them.

Used:

I would go with the used one its cheaper and will work just as well. And it is also the exact same one i have.

is it possible that the stock shift lever will fit???i see some of those yz lever ends fold in and out should i stay away from those and go with a solid unfolding lever or does it even matter?

mine is one like your talking that folds and the spring is really stiff even new it will be fine i have never messed up on a shift because of the folding part.

I'd actually recommend a folding shifter over a fixed. For shifting it will be fine. But the folding piece was actually designed for the in case something hits the shifter you are not screwed. Any little bit helps sometimes

you can make i direct shifter from your stock one .. i did on my old warrior ...just bend it to the shape you want , cut off the linkage crap , and weld the shifter lever to the part that slides over the shift shaft...

just thought id let ya know .. free is better to me , yes it isnt as pretty as a yz250 shifter but hey its free
plue you can sandblast it and paint it or whatever

So I got the YZ250 Direct Shifter in today and installed it. Like the way it looks and feels, but seems a little too close to the case.

Is this something I just need to get used too or did I do something wrong? Thanks

Nope, looks good. Actually sits out farther then mine does. (I'm running the gytr cover though too)

well i actually backed it off the shaft a tiny bit to have it stick out a little farther. It's about 3/4 on instead of 100%.

Wait? How is that possible, there is a grove the the bolt sits in and I things the bolt is as round as the grove cut out is so how did you move it out on the shaft more?

Ahhh, I see now. Hope you don't kick it off. My moneys on the fact that you will. That bolt is suppose sit in that grove on the shaft for a reason, to keep it from coming off or sliding in more. If its sitting in to close to the cover after its on there right, just bend it out more.

You must not ride with boots either, it looks to be sitting way down. Mine sits even with the bottom inside bolt, but to each its own, long as you comfortable with it.
