alright here is an update, i pulled off the spark plug and it was fouled like crazy, put a new plug in and it fired right up BUT i still have a slow cranking motor the details:

battery reads 12.5 doesnt drop below 10 while cranking
my batter works fine in my buddies 660, his battery cranks my wheeler just as slow as my battery.

is it possible that i have so much compression its messing with the starter?
the guy i got my quad from said it has a 400 big bore in it, thats all he told me. the case has been opened cuz they used rtv sealant for gaskets.

my decomp lever doesnt work at all, ill flip up the tab and it feels like nothing is connecting inside the valve cover. with my sparkplug off the motor turns great. i dont believe its my stater clutch i think its just the starter.

do they make high torque starters? maybe i need something like that. i dunno im out of ideas HALP!!!

Well the 400 big bore would be a CWR kit. That is pretty hi compression. I would do a compression test and see. If the cam has been replaced then the decompression most likely has been disconnected. The other thing if you are running that much compression is I would consider running race gas.

k ill throw a compression tester on there and see what i get. but heres the thing, since its cranking very slow is that gonna throw off the psi reading? and why would someone disconnect the decomp lever? is there really any advantage to it?

maybe i will try to run half pump and half race to see what happens....would that hurt anything?

so im just gonna lead to believe that it is the starter thats bad and just end up buying a new one hoping it fixes the slow crank issue. my buddy has a comp tester just to see whats its at and i went around town, through hell and high water to find a fitting for it since he didnt have one and i found nothing. so no compression test for now :(

Yeah that is a very good point about that if the engine is turning over slow then the compression might be a little low that way. I was hoping that would also tell you if what type of fuel to run.

The new warriors after like 89 when they got rid of the decompression mech and pull starter.

Good luck with a new starter..

thanks for your help jason, ill let you know whenever i get my starter how it turns out!
