Since I've worked on the YZ 465 I've just fallen in love with the Damn thing! It's so simple in many ways & the overall layout of it doesn't look that hard to put on a Warrior chassis. I honestly think the difficult part of the swap would be figuring out the exhaust. I'm hoping I can dig around online & find some info on how to correctly build a 2 stroke exhaust system but 1st off I need an engine. Preferably a '81 465 like the one on the Dirt bike I've been Messin with. It's 5 speed & just pulls nice! Anyone have or know where I can get a running or rebuildable 5 speed 465 or 490? It's gotta be affordable, even a whole wrecked bike would be great but all I want is a complete engine assembly & modyfiable exhaust. A Warrior would just be evil cool with this thing on it!!!

to fit the exhuast cut the stock one up in sections, then reroute it using the cut up sections, make sure to keep the same airspace in the expansion chamber and the section of pipe before the chamber. After the camber you can legthen or shorten as needed

I like the 465 with the 5 speed, I also understand that '87 up 490's had the 5 so that's what I want. I figure doing what you said to do to the exhaust would Prolly get me close Elwood, thanks, wish there was a way I could improve the system but hey, 50+ hp stock should still be a hoot, Lol!!!

TBH you'd be happier with a late 80's through 90's model CR500 or KX500. water cooled beasts! they's stomp any YZ's ass

They do, they vibrate, no doubt about it but honestly the reason I like this engine is b/c of the air cooled simplicity. Warriorgirl, I believe you, I'm sure those would be better choices but even though it sounds corny, I wanna stay Yamaha & also staying air cooled makes the install easier. In the future when I'm a lil more familiar with some other engines & stuff I would Prolly consider a water cooled project but right now I don't wanna deal with sorting out the plumbing & radiator fitment, exhaust is gonna be hard enough. Ya gotta admitt though, the 465 in the Warrior is gonna be badass!

Also, FWIW, I don't want people to make the mistake of thinking that the vibrations are like riding a jack hammer, it's not. You notice it some & I mean some at idle sitting still but believe me, you forget all about any vibrations when this beats starts gettin wound up, Lol!!!
Btw, I'm interested in putting the engine in a Warrior chassi, not just getting a big bore 2 stroke bike. Honestly, owning this old bike would be cool but the brakes & stuff on it suck, so I'm not as much interested in the bike as I am the powerplant.

i have a roller warrior frame and a guy offered me a CBR F4i engine WITH complete wiring harness and all for $250.... gotta admit... it's tempting

I just got ride of my KTM 550 2stroke project bike. Hopefully that guy I sold it to does indeed fix it and get it runnin. He said hell late me take it for a spin. I can only imagine.
