i threw the charger on my quad today and was charging it up... hit the start button and it started to fire up.. i put the charger on full 12v boost and waited a few seconds and now when i hit the start it just clicks.. it doesn’t click continuously it only clicks once.. when i touch the screw driver from the two solenoid terminals nothing happens... i checked the voltage at the solenoid and its getting a steady 12v.. a little corrosion on the battery but still enough for a good connection.. do i have a bad starter?

2002 Warrior... fired up a month ago just fine too

NOTE: it was a heavy duty car battery charger that i was using so i think i definitely burned out the starter putting too many amps through the starter.. let me know what you guys think.. thanks!

well you can't really burn out the starter as it really only will take so many amps to turn over the engine as it needs per voltage it sees. One way to do so is have the engine lock up and then hit the starter button with at big booster pack and watch it smoke, but this will likely not happen.
If you touched the two solenoid termails together and nothing happened, OR hooked the battery charger up to ground and the other straight to the starter termail and nothing happens then yes the starter is bad.

UPDATE: when i tap the starter the quad turns over? just bad connection???

That means your starter needs rebuilt or replaced. What happens is that either the brushes are worn, or there is a dead spot on the armature, and tapping it gets the brush to make enough contact to get the starter running.

I suppose it could just be a bad connection, did you at least check to see that the cable is securely connected and isn't corroded or rusted?

yes cables are fine..no corrosion.. i bypassed the whole system and ran the power right to the starter and still nothing.. started smacking the starter and then hit the start button and it started to turn over
