ok well that sounds pretty easy to set up, do you think adding the pipe between the filter and carb would make a real difference? I can see how it might keep the air a little cooler but not much. And I don't know about the sock and duct tape but I see what you are getting at.

sorry about jumping in and acting like I know alot, I quess I got carried away with past experience and forgot I am a newbie on this forum.

I had an xt250 that would do the same thing with one of those clamp on chineese filters and cured it through a clamp on uni filter and some messing with the idle air screw (or air/fuel for some)
I called it the dirt choppa

I did eventually get the front fender mounted low with a cr85 chopped up sprocket and the seat covered with an abandoned suede jacket.
I got $450 out of the once all flat black spray bombed 150 dollar craigslist find

sorry for going on

I love old dirtbikes, I've had several. and as for the filter it's just a temporary fix, it didn't even have one when i bought it.

I feel ya
mine has about everything and about everthing is wallerd out, my latest surprize was when I looked under it because it was dripping oil, I found a socket stuck to the loose drain plug..
at least it was loose!

I am only at home on the weekends so I haven't had a chance to work on it but today i'm picking up a 45 pilot and a 150 main and i'm gonna play with it and let everyone know how it goes.
