i have just rebuilt the motor and when it warms up it dies. when it cools it starts and runs till it gets warm and the same thing. i put a wiseco 40 over piston, it was jetted when i got it, kn air filter and stock exhaust and head

my guess would be its overheating, you might wanna get an oil cooler for it

but what is causing the overheating this happened the first day i took it out for break in like 1/4 - little under 1/2 throttle

i have heard of a bad stator doing the thing your are describing, the bike seems to run good until warmed up, then it dies. just a thought. what year is the quad? original stator?

i am totally unsure of the year i picked it up for $200 it has been mix and matched i believe the head was a 87 - 88 but the rest is in the 90's i believe it is the org. stator

yep it has spark and would a coil cause the engine to stop when it gets warm?

yeah it can. Because with temp changes it will cause the coil windings to have different resistance or have a short or open.

it will crank but not start till it cools down like 5 mins then run 5-10 mins then dies again

Put a volt-meter on the battery/leads when cold, and start the quad. Monitor the voltage continuously until it dies.

Watch for either wild fluctuations in voltage, or a steady drop in voltage as the engine warms up.

Report back here what it does...

I got one in mine and they have a year warrenty, plus the guy is great to deal with.
I would also check the pickup coil and the source on the stator.
I guess if you still getting spark, you could also check the flow bowl on your carb and see if the float needle is stuck and is not letting fuel through the carb or maybe the fuel petcock.
