As long as you have the basic shop tools and good mechanical know-how you should have no problem doing the base gasket..... you do not have to remove the engine from the frame to do it. Make sure you get it timed right when putting it back together.
You'll need a feeler guage set as well as a 4mm wrench (or a small adjustable) to adjust the valves, again make sure your at your timing mark on the flywheel with the engine at TDC of the compression stroke when doing the adjustment.
As long as the jets are for the Mikuni carb you should have no problems there.
The pipe will make a difference in power with the correct jetting and a high-flow air filter.
