Sometimes I'll go over a big bump, or either have the hammer down accelerating and I'll upshift and it acts like I'm shifting into neutral, when actually I'm going from 5th to 6th and I think its happened from 4th to 5th before too. It only does it long enough for me to let off the throttle once, then it'll WHAM back into gear. I can just imagine the gear shavings that are probably flying inside the case. Anybody had similar experiences with this? I am using the clutch to shift too. It only does this every once in a while though.

could be your clutch is wearing out...have you done the extra plate with heavy duties springs mod. That cured my problem.

No I haven't but that's a good point, I didn't even think of that.

if you need 1 i got some here i can send some...just get the springs and a gasket. also, i will post some pic of what i did to fab up a tool to hold the basket still to take off the center nut.

those pics would be great I got a 1/2 case that has a clutch in it (got it for free) and I can't get the clutch out

Humm, you have issues with the reverse lever by chance? Kinda sounds to me like it could be falling out of gear than back in, specially since its a sudden re-grab.

I haven't checked, but I think my linkage is pretty snug. But thats it, it gets out of gear, then back in, all by itself. I just try to pull in the clutch when in falls out, cause I know whats coming next.

I used a piece of flat steel. Laid it against the basket to reference where the holes are and drilled holes into that piece. Then I welded another piece beside that to reinforce it. Put some steel rods through holes tack them in. then cut a half circle so I could get the racket on the nut. Good to go.
Elwood…You can use a impact to take off the nut, it what hurt anything. I prefer to use this so I could torque the nut back on.

i always use an impact and the backet nut will always come off for me

I made up this holder, used an impact gun.Measure your springs to see if they are within specs unless you want to go with the heavy duty.

I rode in the snow all day long and it didn't do it once, But it may do it next time. When I change my oil, ,which will be soon, I think I'll take the cover off and have a look.

i think ive got the same thing going on that you do. you wouldnt happen to have a hard time shifting would you?

I wouldn't say hard time, its often that I get hung up in neutral when going into 2nd gear. I think most of that problem is caused by lack of direct shifter mod though.
