Transmission problems

Ok guys first ride yesterday on a fresh top end rebuild the engine was good and strong but the tranny was acting up big time. I would be in neutral click into first and it would seem to go into 5/6th? I don't have a clue any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

It wouldn't do it every time, probably did it about 5/6 times in a 4 hour ride.

Ok took it out again and I think it has something to do with the reverse linkage.
