Guys,
I just ran into a recent problem and was hoping someone could help me out. When I go to start my warrior it takes a good minute or so to fire up. It turns over fine and cranks fine. I play with the choke a little and also give it gas...then without warning it will fire up. Once started it runs fine seriously fine....and when it is warm it will start without issue...just seems when it is cold. It has gotten a lot warmer here in NC, in the 90's with lots of humidity....not sure that has anything to do with it. I swapped out the spark plug...any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hey Irish I had the same problem with my warrior, little did I know the stator was going bad. My YFM350XR (2003 Warrior) would take forever to start. Practically drain the battery before it started. Tried sanding the points of the stator down to freshen them up a bit. didn't work. Got a new stator and tweaked my quad a little bit (rebuilt carb, took airbox off, oil cooler mod) needless to say my quad started right up, sounded like it started on the first compression stroke. I am very confident that your stator is going bad. Yamaha dealers told me that when a Yamaha has problems starting, 9/10 times its the stator. I would put very good money on your stator being bad. Do you have to hold the fuel throttle mid-level on choke? I had to with my. But i started cheap, replaced the spark plug, that didnt work. Replaced the ignition coil, that didn't work. Replaced the Voltage Regulator, that didn't work. Thought about the CDI, but the more I thought and stewed on it, I figured it was the stator. Then i threw the stator on the ground and figured I had to get a new one now. So like I said as soon as I bolted everything up, got my pilot screw out 2 full turns, and cranked it, it turned over and started RIGHT UP!! MADE ME SO HAPPY!!!!!!!! Try your stator, Ricky Stator (from what I hear) has great stators, or moose electrics (they buy wholesale from rickys electrics. Also noticed when it was warm it started without issue. Mine did the same. Seemed like the colder it got, the harder it was to start, the more dead my battery got before success. I would recommend just jumping right in and replacing the stator right off the bat. What year is your YFM350?

Oh and BTW im in AZ and its hot as he!! here. Quad started fine in the summer, then slowly gave out and wouldn't start at all. No spark on the plug, but got fuel and compression. Seriously its your stator without a doubt! 2002-2005 YFM350s both raptors and warriors everything is identical besides frame and body/plastics

1998 yamaha warrior problems

i just joined this forum trying to figure out some problems im having with my warrior. i purchased this warrior for 750.00. heres the problem. when i go to start it it will only crank over. has good compression, good spark and is deffentately getting gas into the cylinder. push or pull it with another fourwheeler not even 5 ft and it fires right up. runs strong. i can shut it off and hit the start button fires right back up. if i leave it sit over night or a couple hours it will only crank over. thats the first problem. the second problem is sometimes the neutral light comes on and i can crank it over without pulling in the clutch lever. othertimes it can be in neutral, light wont come on, and ill have to pull lever in to get it to crank. i have checked everything there is to check as far as wiring, stator and everything. shop said adjust the valves, i did that still cranks, cleaned carb, still cranks off key. like i said push it not even 5ft and fires right up. anyone out there can help me figure this quad out id greatly appreciate it.

When you ohm the stator what are you getting on the pick up coil? As far as your light thats sounds like the neutral sensor or wiring.

possibly the cltuch switch could be acting up intermittenly, ont he clutch there will be a little switch with two wires, follow them down under the hood, and unplug the switch, then plug the two ends of the wire fromt he quad into eachother and see if that makes a difference
