valve stuck in piston

ok guys, noob here. I have just acquired, for free, a 1998 350 Warrior. I can remember a friend having one of these brand new in 98 and it scared the crap outta me, ive wanted one ever since. troubleshooting lead me to look into the spark plug hole, where i seen the cracked piston. i figured top end, if done myself, should only be around $5-700.
i started tear down this morning, got a few pics and want to share and get some thoughts/advise as to where to go from here. there are pieces of the piston down in the bottom, most appear to be trapped where i can see the bits, ill retrieve those shortly.
is this bike a goner or can i still save it?HELP!

so just replace the top end with new?
have my stuff machined?
im cool with just stock setup, but since im doing it, shouldnt i try to get a few more ponies and not spend a great deal more?

ehh, update.. i got what i think is about 90% of the piston bits out of the case using an extraction tool.. even flipped the bike to get a stubborn piece. now to buy new top end or rework this one is the question. cylinder does have some scratches i can feel and see, the head is beat to hell with the head of one valve broke off. so, new head + piston + bore out this cylinder?

Depends how deep the scratches are in the cylinder. Maybe a machine shop can tell you if its good or not. Also, regarding the pieces of piston/valve in the crankcase, before starting the bike, flush it out several times in order to try to wash out the remaining metal pieces.
