I have an 89 warrior that the idle will go high on its own at times. Seems to be worse when warm. Cable and air boot new. Carb has been taken apart and cleaned. Also will barely run cold. The choke has to be on for awhile and then the idle will go high on its own. There also is a backfire through the intake that will cause it to die. Took it to a shop and they rejetted the carb and said it was fixed and is not. Anyone have any ideas, I am stumped!

First off did you get your money back from the shop? Secondly, sounds to me like an intake air leak, that or throttle sticking open at times. Check for vacuum leaks by spraying carb or brake cleaner around the carburetor, intake manifold, airbox, etc... Is the float heigh set to factory standards? Lube your throttle cables while your at it.

It's lean at idle for one reason or another. Either an air leak between the carb and head (did you replace the o-ring when you replaced the intake manifold?) or the fuel screw is set too lean. What is the pilot set at?
