That shouldn't be debated at all. Bottom line, most 2001 Raptor's had tranny problems.

Which is why I left my comment short. I don't agree with you. But thats why I have my opinion and you have yours..

agree or don't, it's still a known fact that 2001 raptors have weak transmissions.

I just don't understand why you don't agree with me. It's not like I'm coming out with some theory on how the trannys crap out, it is a known fact that 2001 Raptors had transimission problems.

I don't have personal experience with this. However any and all threads I have read about someone having trouble with the tranny on an 01 raptor 660 there are more then a handful of people claiming they have had no problems out of the tranny. So it just seems like it was a problem with a few of them. Not all or most!

that's still a good enough reason for me to not buy a 2001. Take the risk of spending $500+ to get a transmission replaced, vs waiting until you find an 02 or newer, and maybe spending another $200 because it's newer. It's not just a few that have the problem, there's a specific part that was designed too weak, and ANY 2001 raptor that gets pushed too hard can have that same gear break. It's a common problem, if it wasn't then yamaha wouldn't have redesigned the entire transmission for 2002.

they even have stated it in magazines when the topic of new quads comes up. i have read articles about the z400's weak frame and they compare it to the 01 raptor stating that many new quads have problems the first year or so that need to be worked out. i'm not trying to argue with anyone, but if i hear something quite a few times about a particular year or quad, i'm gonna stay away from it, just to be on the safe side. i dont think that i would ever buy a first year model of anything. well, maybe a 250r.

everyone here has some truth to their opinions. Not EVERY 01 has tranny problems, but i did hear alot of cases of tranny's going bad. My neighbor had an 01 rappy before he got a yfz( still ahs the rappy) an dhas had the raptor sine it came out. After riding it just about every weekend since then it still has had no problems.
