im looking at plate aluminum and you can get a nice sized thickness and piece of aluminum for about 80 bucks..

the problem woudl be welding it up.. but there is this crap called allumalloy...

anyone try to take this on themselves?

By the time you pay 80 bucks for aluminum and then use a stick of allumalloy, and fab it up you could just buy a skid.

Find someone with a TIG and bribe them with beer if you really want to follow this avenue.

ive heard they are kinda hard to weld with but if you can learn it will work perfect

Ya still gotta have a MIG, and all the consumables to learn (which takes a while and a lot of botched pieces). Unless you just want to learn to weld aluminum I would follow a different route.

I am a welder by trade and welding aluminum correctly takes the right equipment and lots of practice. If you know a welder who can do it and is willing to dedicate the time it can be done but it will likely be cheaper to get some from PRM. My PRM skids have taken a beating since 1997 and are still on the bike!

a friend of mine has a homeade skid made out of cromed treadplate steel it looks realy good

i dont know why people buy these new.. they will just get beat up..

i say keep savin your money until you find a nice used set for cheaper!

One just sold on FleaBay for $36 new. I had it listed in The DLDotD thread in the classifieds section.

ya i know people are really getting good deals on dldotd i have started watching them a little closer.

The words nice, used, and skidplate seem out of place with each other.
Kinda like - HOT , SMART , LIKES TO COOK, RIDES ATV'S , PUTS OUT . All in the same sentence ??
