i flipped the quad on its grab bar to take a look underneath.. and gas was streaming out.. cap was tight..

i had to go to work so i didn't pull the skin off.. what should i look for? is this normal for YFM?

This is normal for almost anything with a carburetor. The fuel level in the carb's bowl is controlled by a float. When the angle is too great, for example when somebody does a wheelie or stands it on the grab bar, it holds the float wide open and fuel will stream out of the overflow tube until you sit it back down and the fuel levels out.

In the future if you want to work on it while it's standing on the grab bar you need to 1: turn the fuel petcock to the off position and 2: drain the fuel out of the bowl by turning the drain screw on the bottom of the carb, and of course catching the fuel in a bottle as it drains out to be environmentally friendly.
