anyone have a direct shifter for a 2001 warrior, i need a steel one not aluminum so i can cut and weld it shorter.....

I don't think that would be too good of an idea, a direct shifter is already a good deal shorter than stock, making it shorter will just make it harder to shift.

see, everyone else says the direct shifter is longer than stock, and when I held up a yz250f aluminum shifter to it at the shop, you need like a size 13 shoe to shift it, I wear size 10, lol

just bend your sifter like this:

It gives you like and extra inch or two and it fits around the big bear set up....I also wear 10s and its perfect for me...i like it it also gets the shifter closer to the engine instead of pushing your foot way out like it is when its stock.

holy crap i just noticed how nice and clean everything looks in this pic...its been a long time since its been that clean becuase it sucks washing quads in the winter.

Well, they're right, and you're right also. The direct shifter itself is shorter than the stock shifter, but because of the different mounting point, they still come out farther than the stock shifter does. I believe the issue he's trying to bring up is the shorter you make that shifter, the less leverage you're going to have, and the more effort it's going to take to pop it into the next gear.

Exactly, even though it sit farther out when mounted, it's still shorter and has less leverage. I noticed that it's harder to shift with a direct setup, it would be even harder if it was shorter. I wear size 10/11 shoes and when I wear boots I can reach it just fine.

I don't think a little bit is going to cause any harm. The direct shifter I have for the oil cooler setup is pretty short, it comes out to about the same place as the stock shifter, and it's not bad at all to shift, still much better than the stock one.

I have a direct link shifter on mine but the truth is all sport bikes have linkage shifters and most are putting out 130HP or better with 6 gears. Even in superbike they shift constantly. The problem is the crappy likage yamaha used, there is too much play and no positive feel. One day I may make up my old linkage shifter with real spherical rod ends.

well on my ninja, it has a linkage setup but the linkage is very tight, you barely tap it and it shifts, my warrior misses a gear here and there when drag racing, I wanted a direct shifter but since the shifter post is like 4" further forward than the stock setup, I wanted to barely shorten the shifter like 1" but wanted steel instead of aluminum so I could weld it easier

Stiff shifting on the warrior can be solved by switching to a high quality synthetic atv oil. You would be surprised in the diffrence it makes.

A direct shifter that fits well and is not way too long is the yz250 shifter 1999-2008

ya i might just make my own, I want the oil cooler setup also so i could modify a banshee one... maybe i'll put off the nitrous to do that... lol
