Just to make sure 2000-front 13t, 87 rear-40t sprockets and a 520-98 chain will work??

A 12t was on front but I rather replace new sprockets with new chain.

Good or bad??

worn but you shouldnt have a problem for the weekend i have seen way worse still working

Is it possible since it worn it can damage the new x ring chain?? At Mathis a 13/40 won't be good for trails??

That rear sprocket looks ok..
13/40 is stock. I found at 13/40 you wind up really fast, and have a lame top speed.. 14/40, or even 14/38 is the best gearing on these quads IMO. They have a fair amount of bottom end, and pull hard even with higher gearing.

Well I can't find a 38 rear for a 87 sprocket hub .. All I see is 40,42,45

All those combos you guys are throwing out are for top speed. What about low end without killing to much top end?

Well thats what I was say'n with the first combos.. Their good for trails, and a stock motor. 14/40, or 13/38. Those will give you a good balance on tighter trails..

If you had a well built 366, with a beefy cam, and a good flow'n exhaust. Well then you could look at gearing like 14/38, or 15/40.. Maybe even higher, like 15/38 if you run flatter more open trails.

I have 13/38 on my 1st gen with 22" tires. Works great for the trails, I can lug it in 3rd or sometimes 4th depending on the terrain. I like it because with the smaller front sprocket over the 14/40, it pulls a little harder I've found. You can also get 37 and 38 tooth rears from denniskirk. I plan to run 14/37 on the stroker, but am getting 15 to try out also. So I'll have 13/14/15 fronts, 40/38/37 rears to try gearing combos out with. I'm also planning on using the 21x11-9 GNCC rears.

I hear ya on have'n extra gears. I have a 13, 14, and a 15 for my 490. Then 38, 39, and a 40 for rear sprockets.

I really like the 13/38 set up I'm running now. It seems to keep the motor in the powerband nicely. :iagree:
But I plan on running the dunes next year, so I'll probably go 15/39 for that.

Would 13/38 be a good combo for a motor with a slip on,performance CDI, drilled air filter lid??

Yeah it would work fine. I'm running it because I have the stock size tires in the rear, and ride tight trails where the lower gears are needed, and where I lugg a grear high a lot. If I had 20's I'd go 14/40. Not that my bike can't handle that gearing with the 22's (you've seen my mod list in my sig), but it feels really good to me with the 13/38 and 22's. I figure it is close to 14/40 with 20's.
