im working on a 99 warrior. when i tore it all down there was grease in the carrier but the new bearings are sealed. so my question is do i put it together dry or do i need grease in it?

if they are sealed they must be greased just like mine were when i chaged them ;)

i know the bearings themselfs have grease but what i was wondering is do i need to gease the housing?

about that i really dont know but i greased mine runs much more better

Yupp, that grease is in the housing for a reason (inner sleeve and axle ride in it) Re-grease it, or do the carrier grease zerk mod.

The only reason you really should grease inside the housing is to keep everything from getting rusted up and tight, if you grease it up good you won't have to fight it nearly as much the next time you take it apart.

A cool fact i was told is if you put the the bearings in the freezer for a couple hours they shrink a bit and pop right in no problem at all. It worked nice.

^ Yupp! Recently did this when I replace the front ball joins on my truck, makes the install go very smooth!

anyone have any tips on breaking the axle nuts loose. Mine was loose and the next day iwouldnt budge. Do you think a major drop in temperature could have caused this?

Oh and also i stripped all the bolts on my brake disc so thats cool, right?

put it in first then get a pipe wrench on them nuts and hit the pipe wrench with a sledge hammer.

when I did mine I ended buying the wrenches and it works great. Their small enough that they fit in there easy and u can use a 1/2 breaker bar or a pipe to slip over the end for leverage. The pipe wrench works great but with the 2 axle there's not much room and the pipe wrench is huge and risk tearing or marring the axle nuts up. I got mine from Rocky mountain atv and I believe they were about $36.00.

i have a set of really big adjustables but they just cranked right through first gear like it was in neutral(not quite that easy) and i was able to jump on it . i'm thinkin of puttin some heat to it before hand and seeing if that helps.

Do you have your warrior on the ground with the tires on it? I found the easiest way was to have it in gear with somebody sitting on it and have them apply the brakes. I also used a pry bar to slide it through the sprocket and rotor to lock it against the swingarm. So far I haven't tore anything up. I have used PB Blaster and a cutting torch to heat mine up alittle and it came just fine. PB blaster is the greatest to remove frozen bolts. With some heat you couldn"t believe what you can break loose. My brother had 76 olds cutlass and we were going to put headers on it and I used it. I sprayed it a for about a week and he would go to work with and every bolt on the heads loosened up after 20 some years. Try that and it should come loose.

No pipe wrenches, the way they grip the nuts actually crushes them to the axle if you put too much pressure on them, it destroys the nuts and it makes them even tighter.

Go to harbor freight and get an 18" adjustable wrench, about 25 bucks and it works better than any tool they sell designed for axle nuts. Have somebody sit on the quad and hold the brake pedal to keep it from rolling forward, and give a good lift on it with that big adjustable wrench, i've never tried that and not have it work. If it's still stubborn, get a propane torch and heat up the nuts good for a few minutes, and try it again. Heat will cause the metal to expand, loosening them on the axle.

an adjustable wrench and a crescent wrench are the same thing... so yeah if you have one that's big enough, that'll work

if you want to get technical crescent is actually a brand of adjustable wrench... just like channellock is actually a brand of "tongue and groove" pliers... just a little bit of useless trivia you can use to start i fight with your friends

thats what i figured and yes i bought the china made jumbo adjustable set. A lil heat and im set but any idea for the stripped bolts on the brake disc. I guess i'll get a set for drilling them out.
Also those pliers are called water-pump-pliers. Plumbing teacher was so anal about us calling them that.
