Pretty sure we have a thermo laser beam gun here in the shop. I have the big bear setup on right now, and will be doing the the clutch cover to the stroker. I SHOULD have the stroker running by the end of next week. All depends on when I get my top end back. My buds 88 has no cooler, and only mods is a Wiseco and DG steel slip on. I could get all 3 readings.

I could get all 3 readings.

AWESOME! And We still need to get readings from others quads so we can compare numbers. We'll get a good chart setup and know what were dealing with. this is one topic that I would love to cover more on here, its one of the few that needs more info on it.

Agreed. We need to get a baseline from a completely stock bike, and list the mods on the others.

I clocked mine around 310 one day and I got nervous,
I run a big bear oil cooler because it cools all oil not just what goes to the crank, also use a big cooler like 15-7-.75 is what I use, that and air shrouds, wrapped exhaust I was running a average of 243* at the head in the sand with a perfect tune.

The 2 biggest things is oil temp, and keeping the heat from the exhaust away from the cooling fins, you can also run a electrical fan and air ducts to help but ive only gotten mine down to 220, I sent my trans out to be micro polished to help with oil temp should be about 170-190* operating temp

Can someone explain the difference between the clutch cover mod and the big bear mod?

Clutch cover mod, is when the oil journal is drilled and plugged so the oil is rerouted to a cooler,
The big bear mod uses the cooler system off of a big bear. The oil is rerouted through the oil filter cap to a cooler.

Thanks man. Clutch cover mod is cheaper and easier, correct?

The cooling systems and which is superior can be further debated as well, but I think that should be a whole other thread.

cheeper yes easier no

Not always cheaper though.
Watch eBay for the big bear setup.

It can be really cheap if you can get the nerve up to drill a cover and dont mess it up. Thats why I always suggest picking an extra one up if your gonna give it a shot yourself. Thats also why I started modding them, alot of guys were getting a little drill crazy and either missing the galley or going thru it. The main reason I went with a clutch cover is I hate the factory shift linkage and didnt want to have to go all out making a direct shifter to go around it. Especially since my motor has a pull start that I had to custom bend for.

As soon as I get my taxes Ill get a temp gun picked up when I drop a bunch on tools!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went with the big bear setup first time around, because I just didn't feel like doing the clutch cover at that time. Drilling and taping the clutch cover is a cake walk. But then, I do this for a living, lol.
