Hey guys and gals, I am new to the quad scene, I am an ex football player (C/NT) that is 6'2" 290 lbs. I have been doing local Woods races and hare scrambles here along with my wife who rides as well. Well fast forward to 2008, my wife and I had our first child; a daughter,so my wife says we need to add a quad to our YZF family. I looked around for a while and found a 2001 Warrior for her. I love this thing!I would like to know,(and sorry this is so long!)a coupla things I need to do to it to make it a lil Big guy friendly as well. I am buying new tires (STI Dirttrax) for it today and bought some CRJ axle spacers to make it more stable, but what about the shocks front and back? I heard about the Raptor transplant, what year? how do I do it? Also, how do I do the K&N airbox mod and what part# do I need? Also, anything else I need to do to it? Its not gonna be hammered on, ridden on trails, the ocasional whoops and tabletop. Sorry for all the questions?

Welcome to the site guy! Enjoy the Warrior madness! Question, is this bike gonna be for your wife primarily? Back shock; upgrade it to a banshee, its a swap out but your gunna have to reshape the bottom of the air box. For the fronts, there are lots of options but there all pricey if you want to do a decent upgrade. (I have a set of works for sale, hehehe) all depends on the main riders weight and main ridin style. K&N Warrior filter is Item #: YA-4350--400487-YW35. Personally id suggest checkin out the Uni filter or another direct bolt up style.

Scope out the site and search for things you want to know, chances are that the topic has been covered.

Thanks! Its mostly hers buuuuut, I happened to get bittien by the bug! I heard something bout the raptor swap. Is it the 660 or 700 or what year? Tell me bout the uni filter? do I need to rejet? Thanks for all your help!!!

The only year raptor shock that will fit is the 2001 660.
I got an aluminum air box from ebay that allows to use a clamp on air filter and it will clear the banshee shock.

warrior392. what airbox did you get off ebay that clears the banshee shock? is it the UM?

from what i have read, the banshee shock is a better shock for the warrior than the 2001 660 but thats only from opinions, i have the banshee shock and love it.

Okay, Which banshee shock do I need to watch out for??? Is it Big guy compatible..lol? ;D ;D

There really isn't much of a point in an aluminum airbox. Get a Pro Design clamp on filter kit (my preference will always be with a k&n filter w/outerwear), and if you get the banshee shock, it takes 5 minutes and a heat gun, no need to spend $100 on an airbox. You won't need to rejet unless you run it with the airbox lid off. Taking off the airbox lid and rejetting it properly will snag you a couple extra hp's, the stock setup is extremely flawed in design.

Any year banshee shock will work, just realize that the older the shock is, the more worn out it will be and the more likely it is to blow out. I'd try for something no more than 10 years old, preferably newer.

I agree, the aluminum air box probably doesn't do much performance wise. I kind of bought it by accident, I didn't think he would accept my offer but he did. It just kills to birds with one stone. Clamp on filter and clears the banshe shock.

Well update!!!I am buy ing Another Warrior for myself!!Not that I am giving up my YZ450 but to ridee around my trails at my house qith my wife and daughter. So, this one is gonna be all mine!!!It too is a 2001 warrior bone stock. So will the banshee shock work my big body? And what do I do about the front? and what air filter mod is recomended?

Okya, so I now have 2 2001 Warriors. My wifes hs the Banshee shock, K&N Drop in & Mine has the 2001 Raptor Shock and K&N Drop in filter. I also pulled both exhausts off sanded them down and painted them with 1200 degree woodstove black paint from the headpipe to the back. I also added some wheel spacers for the back to keep it from being tippy. On mine, being Im a large guy lol, I have the front shocks cranked to the stiffest and tightened down on the Raptor shock. Im just having trouble how to set the compression and rebound thing. I also figured out the best way to make the airbox work with the banshee shock for my wife is to use a heat gun on the spot instead of cutting it. Works like a champ! Should I drill holes in the top of the airbox now that I have the K&N?
