Some nice choices you've made. I like that disc brake kit, and the hotchkis kit, especially. I'd like to do a performance steering/suspension kit for my truck, but, that's a LOT of money. Biggest thing for me to do is rebuild everyting and get it drivable. Fully boxing the frame, new leafs, coils, and assosiated componants. Looking into crager ss style wheels. I think I got a keystone catologe in the mail months ago, and they have a polished primer grey wheel that would look great with my color scheme. Was pricing out engine componants last night on summit. Finally decided on darts SHP aluminum heads, with 180cc intakes, .620" lift, bronze guides, etc... Looked at other **** too, for dad's nova.

be about $8k for all the suspension, brakes and all. and reviews on the hotchkis TVS say it makes these truck handle as good as a corvette in the turns and lord knows i'm gonna be hittin curvy roads! (hell i ride a crotch rocket lol). but i'm not a big fan of the 4-6 drop... lowest i like is a 2-4 drop

here is what i have picked out for the engine.

Mine is not going to be a daily driver, so I'm not going to dump thousands into the steering/suspension. I'll make it handle just fine with some kyb shocks, new performance coils, steering stabilizer, a sway bar, and doing to some "custom" alignment setting (I'm an alignment expert, haven't had anything I can't align, yet). That alone will make her handle well. But, in the future, I may end up going with tubular arms, and other componants.

Some good cam choices there. I'm prob going hyd roller, but considering a few hyd flat tappets. Looking at comp mainly. Cams are the hardest to choose from because there are sooooo many. This is what I have so far.

There are a couple others. May go with the L79 version that comp has, for the 327 in dad's nova. Prob running vortec heads on his. He wants to run a high rise with a built q-jet (I'm doing that, too) but I made mention of doing a 3-2 set up, and he is kinda liking the sound of that. Be different, anyway, not many people use 6 packs anymore. Will need to get a new forged crank for my truck as well. So much to do, and so much time before it's done, lol.

comp is a damn good cam! but Isky is proven to build more torque and horse power for the compatible lobe profiles. AND another thing i like about isky is the 108 LSA where as MOST comp cams are 110 and 112 LSA.
Lunati, comp, isky, and crower are the only cams i'll use. i hate crane and i'm not a fan of GMPP cams.

I got the windshield out today (without cracking it!)

i know! especially since it has a tiny rock chip in it :p. i'll have a glass company do that injection crap on that and then put it back it

It had a rock chip in her too? Wow! I guess that can only be done by the soft delicate hands of a woman hey? any man woulda broke the son a bitch lol

oh yeah! skillz dude :p. it's 4:30 and i cant stop looking at suspension parts! way to damn many options out there :/

Sweet! That window opening looks great! Hard to find that in a 43 year old vehicle. I haven't pulled the glass in my truck yet, but the openings look great from the outside. I have to replace all the glass in mine, because it is delaminating :( Need to do the inner and outter cab cornes, toe board, kick panels, and drivers floor pan. Should be able to repair the pass side floor pan. Then need to do the dog legs on the cab as well. Not looking at to much money actually. That is the only major body work I need to do, the front clip is in very good shape, and the bed sides have a few small holes and cracks in the bed rails that are easily repairable.

I've noticed that most all comp cams have the same lobe centers. I'll look into the isky a little more. I know how good comp is, so I've consintrated on them primarily. They have an RV cam and an all around cam for my 8.1L. Would like to get a spare 8.1 and build it for 425hp as a good daily driver and tow vehicle. Don't need much more power than what I have now! Lol. No probs breakin the assend loose!

yep isky is the ****! :). BUT comp will custom grind a cam for the same price as one of they're stocked profiles

No ****! I like that! Getting a 327 OR 283 this afternoon. Complete, last ran in the 1970s. Supposidly it came out of a 59 chevy (prob impala) and is supposed to be original. Has 327 on the valve covers, but the 327 didn't come out until 1962, and that was in the vette. So, either it is a 283 with 327 valve covers, or someone did a swap and this fella don't know it. Either way, for $100 it's mine!!!!!!

Yeah just ran the numbers on it... 1957-63 283. Has 327 turbo fire valve covers, that's why the guy thought it was a 327. Apparently, the car was bought new in 59 by his mother in law. In the 70's it was low on power, so they swapped engines with what she recalled was a 350. Well, her memory isn't too good in her old age, cause it was prob a 327 and they swapped the valve covers. Either way, it's fine with me! Crank wont turn by hand, but will try a few bolts in the crank and a pry bar. Maybe get it to break free. If I fill the cylinders with marvel that's cool, too. Prob have a good 283 crank to use for a 302. Then again, this block has the thick cylinder walls, so it could be bored to 302. I'm pretty sure it has power pack heads. There are no acessory bolt holes, and they have the little triangle on the faces. Still, for a hundo, couldn't go wrong. And, this guy has a Willys 2 door car! Have you EVER seen one!? Well, it's ours now!

got the rest on the dash out, hood off, and drivers inner and outer fender off. the ONLY thing left inside the cab is the heater box :p i'm still amazed at the condition of the cab!. i'll post pics tomorrow

Lol^! I like that! Yeah, we've been tearing it up pretty good. The only thing in my trucks cab is the gauges, a few knobs, and the seat. Which is in awesome condition considering the truck was outside for yeaaarrrrrrsssssss. The seat track even slides!

The 283 we picked up yesterday turned out to be a dynomite find! Pulled the plugs, sprayed ZEP in the holes, but 2 bolts in the crank and grabbed the pry bar. Turned right over, with some effort. Got it on the engine stand, tore it down to the block and rotating assy. No rust on the crank, the rods are tight, and the cylinders are free from defects. There is some glazing, and one had LIGHT surface rust. Spins noice once I got all the old carbon out of the cylinders. Other than that, dad and I know it will start. If only we had a test station... Anyhow, being it is an early 283, I'll have it bored to a 302. It already has a forged crank, so I'll most likely buid it for a drag car. Going to start looking for a muncie m21 now.

this truck is so damn sexy! i'm a chick and i think it gave me a boner...

and then a real dark metallic gun metal gray cab roof

Really?! Ours looks good thus far. Haven't pulled it out yet. But, it turns so smoothly, and has no rust or outward defects/damage, I'm sure it's fine. But I will keep that in mine. My dad was thinking about pulling that crank and putting it in the 327, since they are both small journals. But, I reminded him that the early, 58-62 or 63, 283s had thick cylinder walls and other block improvements over the 57 blocks, and hotrodders were able to bore them out to 4" bores. So, we don't have to kill a good 327. I'm happy.

LMFAO! Hows it feel to have to stuff that in your pants?! LOL. That 1st truck is similar to the pearl orange I'm doing to mine. Now just find a pic of a car in Midnight Bronze Mettalic, and that is going to be the color of my fenders, running boards, and grill brow will be. The cab, hood, and whole bed is going to be pearl orange. The raised GMC on the tailgate will be in midnight bronze, too. The interrior will be a camel color.
