ok guys heres a good one for ya.... hopefully somebody can either agree with me or have another solution that makes sense..

what i have is a 94 warrior that i have completely rebuilt from the bare frame up.... it has stock cam, wiesco 10.25:1 piston, .5mm over bored, brand new timing chain, brand new ricky stator, brand new oneway and gear, brand new rickys cdi, the valves are set at .004 for the intake and .007 for the exhaust and absolutly in time with the crank, it has about 165lbs of compression and lastnight i put my new leakdown tester on it and it isnt leaking anywhere.... i have the stock headpipe and the white bros e series slip on, the carb has been cleaned, and cleaned and cleaned, it has stock jetting with the air screw 2 1/4 turns out... the spark is blue but it takes a few revolutions to start sparking....

i have had it running since the resto, but never completely right and then i lost spark, causing me to replace the stator and cdi... now the damn thing wont even start....

battery is fully charged and ive even tried jumping it off of my car with no luck.... all i can get out of it is one single explosion every 30 or so revolutions.... lastnight we towed it down the road with the sportsman ( ::)) and it was back firing like crazy... it would almost try to start with full choke and 1/2 throttle which being drug in 6th at probably 30mph.... even at that though it was waking the neighbors with all the back fires and flames coming out the exhaust....

im running out of ideas on this damn thing.... also i dont see where it would matter but i better mention it has a clutch cover oil cooler...

here what i think... the ricks cdi with the "modified timing curve" SUCKS, at least with the piston i have, and i should get a stock cdi.... thats the only thing i can figure.... i have seen the shittiest 4 wheelers start and and run 1/2 assed with jetting you know isnt right.... i would think with the stock jetting i should at least be able to get it to start... and if not then pulling it should get it to fire up.....

let me know what kind of questions you guys have for me about symptoms, ill answer them.. because im stumped here... in the meantime im off to strike a deal on a OEM cdi

ya i say start with the cdi i havent heard alot of good things about ricks. also if you havent checked all the connections to make sure there good, ecspecaily grounds. i had a no start issue a couple months back because of a ground

ive went over all of it with a fine tooth comb... i got great spark (after about 5 revs) also thats the thing... when yours wouldnt start it probably didnt have spark?.... i really think that the modified timing curve is for the birds, now if i can just find someone on ebay to unload this ricks on hahaha

I had the same problem kinda and went with an aftermarket pickup, long story short try switching the pick up wires at the plug, it cant hurt anything and mine fired right up for me. this is not even a week ago this happend for me.

hmmm NOW THATS THE KIND OF ANSWER IM LOOKING FOR!!!! i looked those over and they appeared to be the same as the stock one tho... if i switch them from right to wrong can i hurt anything??(after rereading i see you say it can't) i dont want to blow up my new cdi, i would kinda like to sell it to someone on ebay.... do you know off hand which colors you switched?

this idea totally has potential... i cant wait to try it now!!! was your taking a few rev's to start sparking like mine and now its not, by chance?

thanks man im totally stoked to try this... would you be willing to pm your number so maybe i can call you and talk to you and get the "long story" of how you decided to change the wires around... thanks!!

if you look at my thread I posted you can see the 2 pages of craziness and help from other members on here. I am no pro but I just know how to use a OHM meter, the pickup tested bad so I ordered a new one from ebay. I got the new pick up, wired it all up and still had the same problem as before, I thought it was the coil, bought a new coil it still nothing. so I called the people and talked to the guy about it and he told me to switch the pick up wires and try that, went to the garage, did that and boom fired right up. mine are white and red. I switched the 2 around so red went to white and thats all she wrote.

YEP THAT WAS EXACTLY MY PROBLEM!!!!! aloth i cant bash ricky stator entirely... turns out my stator is sold under the name ELECTREX out of Western Power Sport (my dealers form of PartsUnlimited).... i swithed the red and the white ill be damned if the son of a bith didnt fire right up after 2 seconds of cranking and sit there and idle....

WHAT A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE GETTING SCREWED AROUND BY THIS COMPANY BECAUSE THE QUALITY CONTROL APPARENTLY DOESNT EXIST!!!!???? BEWARE OF ELECTREX, i have nothing good to say about them!! my dealer also ran into the same problem with a Kaw. dirtbike only he had NO spark at all untill the company told him to try and switch the wires!!.... i figured since mine had spark it was wired right, WRONG!!! im pissed and happier than a pig in **** at the same time....

THANK YOU PSYCHO YOUR ARE THE MAN!!! ++KUDOS!

Awesome bro, I bought mine from rmstator out of canada, he is the one who gets the credit though. now get to riding damit, while I look for more parts lol, let me know if you come across the starter switch and maybe a key harness for an 01 warrior !

thats cool i missed it saying that you replace the stator. must be whos making them because my pickup coil is from ricky stator with a year warranty and the wires were green and blue and had instuctions.

Well I could ride had I not cut my brand new base gasket with a dowel when I put it together... It never ends!!! Should be able to get a new gasket tomorrow tho and hopefully ride a couple of miles... The majority of my headache is gone tho... I knew it would end up being something retarded... I'm going to try to find a number for electrex tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind!!! I think it is really either a rebranded rickys or rm stator tho

Dude, I did that for weeks. feel my pain, just be lucky someone told you about it lol. I wish I could get out there and do some riding. I might have the polaris up and going this weekend though !

yeah ive been silently pounding my head of the wall for weeks also, until i finially got pissed enough to say something on here.... its just that without checking very possible thing everyone would blame carburation or valve timing or compression or something....

yeah mine would have barely any spark, I took a pic of it to prove to the world I wasnt crazy lol. then came across that hint of changing the wires and boom there she was !

Dude calm down. Every stator rewinder that I've had RM, Ricky and Electro I've had to flip the pickup wires around.
In fact they include a piece a paper that says just this.
So if you want to bash one you better be ready to bash all.
Now if you paid the full price and got the factory one you wouldn't have had this issue but you wanted to go the cheap route, right?

The people I bought mine from didnt include any instructions, IF they would have then it would be different. when I call the lady and tell her the coil is out of factory spec and she tells me they have their own specs not factory, then gets someone else on the phone and he tells me they do go by to factory specs. well in that case why didnt you make your pickup to factory color ?

alright then this is definitly sticky worthy then if you have to flip ALL of the pickup wires on all stators (this is the first i've really seen this issue on here or anywhere else for that matter)... mine also had no piece of paper... why do they build them on with the wires flipped on purpose and then expect the consumer to flip them... i can see where maybe the stator fits a bunch of buggies and the others might require the wires the wrong way but even that is really no excuse.... as far as buying OEM thats crazy, i dont know what it is off hand but ill bet it is very close to the $450 i originally paid for my project.... anyone who buys electronics new from yamaha can give me some of thier $$ because aparently they have too much.... thats just my thoughts

I honestly don't think it at all a big issue to flip some wires around after you had the whole side of the engine appart. From your post count doesn't look like you've been here that long. I know I've posted about this before on here. I've seen it come up on bluetraxx as well and other forums.
Again you get what you pay for. You want to (like me) buy the cheap stuff it is not going to last like a factory unit. Mark my words you may have saved your self in the short run but just wait and see how it all pans out.

yeah your right i havent been on this forum very long, only since may... but im no stranger to the "tuning, modding, and troubleshooting world" and i still stand by what i've said...

Trust me I was in the same boat and agree with the instructions. they could have atleast said "incase of problem switch wires" even with a black magic marker something for all I care on the side of the box lol
