guys, i hope i didnt screw myself over. i bought an 87 motor, but i have an 01 warrior. does anyone know if it will bolt up?

Thats a better motor-it has the decompresion lever and the pull start backup, same internals, both carbs will bolt up.You just need an older CDI,thats all.Way to go.

i havent spent a whole lot of time looking for a cdi box, but so far i'm only able to find an 87 cdi box at south seattle sports plaza and they want $283 for an oem cdi. since my warrior is an 01, would i just be able to pull the stator out of that one and put it in the 87 motor? i might be able to find a cheaper cdi but i sure as hell dont want to spend almost 300 bucks on an oem cdi.

I dont see why not................BUT I heard somwhere the 87 has a differant flywheel.!
WHatever makes it triger the spark is located differantly or somthin of tha nature.

So I would at least look at the PN. and check it out. Or just swap it to.

my dad said that he found a site that has stators and supposedly you just have to tell them which plugs you need for your particular year. i'm gonna have to look into it a little further. hopefully this is the only problem i'm gonna run into by using a different year.

Check him out................I talked to him once b4 threw E-mails.
He seemed very helpful. Explain your situation and see what he says.

He seemed to know his ****.............

The stators and such may be all the same..............If your lucky ya might beable to attach the wires to where they need to go.

But lookinging at the pics there more wires on some than others.........
But he makes it sound like there the same stator and all ya have to do it hook the wires correctly.

If your lucky he'll tell ya how to make the proper connections if possible???

yeah, we came across ricky stators page last night. i'm gonna have to make some phone calls to see what my options are.

evry this is the same motor wise so is the stator all the difference is the wire ends for the startor plug saem flywheel as other years and every thing the cdi box i can change the wire ends around to make it work other than that every internal motor part is the same.

yes all you need is different stator plugs or whole new stator for 2000 and off ya go!

it is gonna be a stroker motor. if the internals are the same and i'm rebuilding it from the ground up, why not?

here is the funny thing. my 01 has a pull start but the 87 doesnt. it originally did, but the guy must have taken it off to put on another motor. on the 01, the original owner put on a pull start instead of buying a new starter because it was cheaper. i'm not sure if i'm gonna put the pull start on the 87 or not. it sticks out about 2 inches and i'm wanting to move my shifter up a spline or two so that it is easier to shift with my boots on. unfortunately, with the pull starter, the shifter will hit the bottom of the pullstart and wont allow it to move up enough to shift.

I have the same problem on my stock 87.

And I LOL at thinking you can PULL over a modified stroker...I can JUST get the 10.25=1 Wiseco psiton to bump over....

since the guy used the pull start as his main way of starting it for who knows how long, it is on its last leg. i'm not gonna spend the money to replace or rebuild it. if worse comes to worse, i'll have someone push me with their quad and pop the clutch until i get home to fix whatever is wrong.

This is my shifter-I can shift with my boots,I have started to use the inside of my toe for upshifting, downshifting is much easier.I understand why you would not rebuild the pull start, but man it is cheap insurance if you are all alone!I moved mine up about 4 splines I think.
