Were the hell do some magazine get their info from, while reading the Kymco artical, they compared other quads and their power ratings, saying the Kymco had like 18 HP, but they think it was measured at the crank. Anyway they went on to say that the Raptor 350 has like 18 HP and the 300EX has a little over 20, A LITTLE OVER 20 ?????, wait a minute, since when did this happen, all the mags I read before say more like 16 for a 300. I'll admit the raptor 350 isn't all you can ask for out of the factory, but why do the mags continue to diss this machine, is it just me, or do others feel this way too.

I just got a new dirtwheels mag today and you wont believe what i read ... In a section of all sorts of quads i was reading some specs on them and as i was reading about the 300ex something caught my eye. This is exactly what it said "With 25 hp it reaches its 60mph top speed in no time." 25 hp! thats awefull... Never heard of a stock 300 with 25 hp.

Like it matters....... you know what you know.... I know for a fact when my gearing was right and my motor was fresh, i needed 4 gears in 500 feet or any distance for that matter to walk all over any 300ex in this area. When my quad was near stock i would have put it against mildly modified 300ex's and not had a worry. Now i dont even look twice at them, even full blown modified.... i know just because my quad is set-up better for straight line drags they dont stand a chance.... they are too light in the front and heavy in the back to ever be able to use the power off the line. If the ground is loose and we both spin off the line.... when i catch traction in 4th its all over. In 4th my motor is just starting to come into its true power haha.

Look out 400EX, looks like your little brothers got you beat. I don't even think it has 20 HP measured at the crank, let alone 25.

yeah, that sounds pretty bogus. My brother's 250ex with pipe, filter, and 20" tires can hold darn close to a 300ex in accelaration, and is slower on top speed mostly because of gearing. 250ex has about 12 horsepower, semi-auto clutch, and shaft drive. Now how can a 300 even have 20 hp and not totally blow the 250 out of the water? I never had a 300 even give me a remotely challenging run against my warrior, even when it was mostly stock.

You are right, the mags only kiss ass to the HP 450s, bigbore 4x4s and Honda anyway, you almost never find an artical on hopping upa raptor 350, and if you do it's a little question and answer in the back of the mag, like when they tested the raptor 350 with the hotrods stroker kit a few months ago. I used to have a subscription to Dirt Wheels and ATV Action, but no more, now I just pick them up randomly.

There was an article on building up a rap 350 about a year ago that used alot of white bros stuff and only used bolt on parts as they felt most 350 owners wouldn't buy stroker kits etc. It was a great article and I saved that issue cause it did mention some weaknesses but adressed them and called it a decent affordable machine. With all the new stuff out alot of people dont want to read alot about older tech machines. I love my raptor but I just come here when I want to read up on it.

dirt wheels did a hop up on a raptor a few months back. hot rods 400 stroker seemed to be the perfect upgrade for an old worn motor or those in need of some boost.

as far as the 300ex goes, they are decently quick and front end wheelie prone. a fun bike and peppy but a warrior will smoke it. a 300 is without a doubt quick but not as much as dirtwheels can milk out of it. i guess they just suck alot of honda and yfz meat?

50 horses from a slip on yfz...hmmmmmmmmmmm thats why my stock honda ran with every piped and worked yfz i have put laps down with!!

i gave up on dirtwheels.... found more info and fact on here and other forums than anywhere else.
