Installing asr braided 2-line brake lines. Took old stuff off, installed new lines. No fluid from master cylinder unless I put my thumb over the outlet hole for it to build up pressure, then it seems to work fine until I take my finger back off. Tried everything I could think of. Check valve bleeder, bleeder valves open, bleeder valves closed, nothing comes out of master cylinder at all except maybe a tiny dribble unless i put my thumb over the outlet. Master cylinder was working fine before I started ******* with things again. WTF am I doing wrong? Please don't tell me that my master cylinder is trash, i don't want to hear that. That'll put some extra ****-flavored frosting on this awesome day.
 
Did you bleed the air out? sqeeze the lever while squeezing open the bleeder valve. Close it let off the lever then sqeeze it again and then open the valve then close it. Repete till fluid comes squirting out... sorry if this dosnt help.
 
I know that's how it's supposed to work, the problem is that it's not pushing any fluid into the lines at all. If I have the bleeder valve open and listen to it, I can hear a small amount of air moving in and out, that's it. Can a master cylinder go "halfway" bad? It makes pressure, but only when there's pressure already built up.
 
would that actually effect anything? Shouldn't I be getting fluid out of the master cylinder regardless? I would think that I should be getting fluid out of it even with nothing connected at all.
 
well if theres a leak no sucktion and pressure can happen.. Mine were acting like yours and a seel had been riped in the master cyliner kit.
 
Ok, I don't get it. Having the bleeder open is the same as having a leak, right? And the fluid comes out when you bleed the brakes... what am I not seeing here, or what do I have to do different? I didn't think there had to be any pressure or suction in the lines for the master cyl to work
 
or did my master cylinder just crap out on me like everything else on this damn thing?
 
yeah but when you press on the break you have the valve closed then you open it so the air and fluid comes out then you close the valve then let off the break lever. if you pump the lever while the valves open its just sucking air back in.
 
Ok, if there are no lines at all connected to the master cylinder, and I pump the lever, what should I expect to happen? Should fluid come out or not? I would think that a good working master cylinder would still pump fluid, right? Or the bleeding process could never get started to begin with...
 
yes it will pump stuff out but with the lines on i would suck air back in when the lever was released bring you back to square one
as you can tell its hard to explain.
 
yeah, I know how to bleed the lines, and that you can't bleed them without closing the valve (normally I actually run a hose from the bleeder valve into a bottle of fluid instead of opening and closing the valve the whole time)

I guess my master cylinder is ****** up then, because nothing will come out of it when I pump it, unless I cover up the outlet hole, then for some reason it will. Then uncover it and it doesn't work again. Dammit.

Anyone have a good master cylinder for sale? It looks like I need one.
 
When I put my lines on, I connected to the master and tightend, then filled it to the top, then walked away for awile, when I came back one line was dripping already, so I bolted that to the caliper, and did the same with the other until fluid ran out, also keep a close eye on the level, then bolted, then started normal bleeding, until I was happy with the lever feel and no more bubbles. It sounds weird but the fluid will travel down the line on it's own, I had no problem at all. BTW I have the same brake lines as you.
