when ever buying a camerea for offroad use check the Delay time

Delay time = The time between when you press the button to when the camerea itself takes the pictures

if ur just looking for a cheep digi camerea if u look in my other threads i have a nice kodak sumtin lol i forget what its called right now that you can pick up at a local walmart... But this camerea does take some nice pictures for like a 50$ if i recall because i got it for X-mas.. ill get ya the name of it a lil later... im still trying to wake up... it also takes some short movies but with no sound and when u upload them on the net it is really blurry but the picutres are almost perfect...

I bought my wife the sony camera. Its a pretty good camera. Batteries last a while but u do have to by a memory stick for it. it holds 32mb which is about 11 pics so I went on ebay and bought a 512mb stick for 21 dolllars. the 6 mp are great camera is a great buy for the price. i havent taken it out on the track yet so i cant tell you that yet,

The cannon is roughly 40-50 bones cheaper. But either camera would be fine IMO, they are both great names. I didn't really get into the specs of each one, but one of the most popular features right now is video. I don't know if that matters to you or not.

Without any memory my camera will hold 100 pics/15 seconds of video
With a 256 SD card- 250pics/7 minutes of video
With a 512 SD card-500+ pics/15 minutes of video
With a 1GIG SD card-10,000+pics/30+ minutes of video

coreys camera has a delay if you just push the buttin down but it takes instant if you hold the button down and a little green light comes up and then its ready for instant shots

Video is definetly an extra I want, I'm thinking of buying the Canon, and buying a memory stick, How much do you think the 512sd card will run me? like 20-30 bucks?

If you're recording video get at least a 1 gb card, it's definitely worth the extra 20 bucks to be able to hold twice as much. I have a 5 megapixel kodak v530 that records 640x480 video, and I can get about 30 minutes of video on my 1 gig card. Even that can get filled up before you know it. I'd say if you're really going to use it for video spend the 80 bucks or whatever it is on a 2 gb card.

The thing that really sold me on the v530 over the other cameras with similar features is it's size. It's one of the smallest digitals out there, so you can slide it in your pocket when you're riding and forget about it, then when you spot a photo/video opportunity you can just pull it right out, shoot, and slide it back in your pocket. If there's a chance of getting wet, just put it in a ziplock bag to keep it dry. I got mine for $170.

Can you show me where you got it for 170? and the 1 gig memory, and how much memory did it hold before the memory card? I dont expect to be taking 30 minute vids, maybe along the lines of 5- 7 minutes.

I got it at www.buydig.com, it's the best price around, and the shipping was really quick. You're probably going to find the cheapest memory card either at buydig, or www.tigerdirect.com. Actually, if I remember correctly, buydig has packages where it includes a carrying case, 512 meg memory card, and lense cleaning kit for an extra $30 or so. I got my 1gb card at buydig for $50.

The built-in memory on the v530 is only like 16 megs or something, but really the only thing built in memory is there for is to save the camera's settings. The only complaint about this camera is that it uses kodak's pain in the ass easyshare software to upload the pics onto the computer, but you can just get an SD card reader if you don't have one already, then all you have to do is pop the card into the reader, and then you can access the pics and vids just like if it was on a cd or floppy disc. My printer has a built-in card reader that I use, and everything is much simpler that way, compared to fooling around with that useless easyshare software.
