My buddies yz426f dirtbike recently developed a grabby clutch and is hard to start off out of first sometimes.. not always. what would cause this?

A notched clutch basket and iner hub boss and worn clutch my dads kfx 400 would lung when you started from a stop you couldn't slip the clutch eather it was eather fully ingaged or fully disengaged

Not had at all on a warrior it takes a 8mm a 10mm and a 21mm and a flat head screw driver and hammer if I memeber right its hard to put it together wrong the basket (unless its aftermarket) shout have a arrow/timming mark that times it with a iner hub boss and if they ain't lined up the clutch won't work and make sure you don't mix the order of the plates any because some plates are different then others

gotcha. he wants me to ebay a clutch for him so should i just tell him that a new clutch wont help without a new basket?

I'm going by my experience your best luck would be to take the clutch apart and look at it before replacing parts that arent needed

Also depends on the year of the 426... If its a 2000 it will always have a grabby clutch (they were like an on/off switch honestly) while 2001 and 2002 had an improved clutch due to slightly changed design.

Anything easy to do on the warrior, is usually easier to do on a 426 (except a plug change). All you have to do is put the bike on its side and pull the clutch cover off and you can pull it apart and check it all out easily.

Or deerman you could have ur buddy sell me the bike so i could have a motor to put in my pig of a warrior hahaha
