So I've talked about this on here recently, and I'm planing to hit the dunes, and maybe climb some hills with my 490 Hybrid..

Now I know what swingarm I'm gonna buy.. But I have to wonder, how long is to long? Like with the stock swinger I have now, the quad sits back on the rear tires really easy. But I don't want to go to long as to make the quad "unrideable" on open trails.. Also the motor in my quad sits back a bit farther than the stock motor did.
I wanna know if theres a formula to find the best length for the fulcrum point on my quad? Or does anyone have some suggestions?

Don't know a formula. But, I'm getting a plus 4 swinger for mine, which is a plus 3 for us 1st gen guys. I think that would be best for all terrians.

ya i'm with gen on this and your right there is a too long for trails for sure. I dont know about it to much on four wheels but coming from a dirt bike stance the longer you go the harder it is to turn i would think a plus 4 would be good and you said you motor sits back further so it might be just purfect for you and still be able to ride well

Talk to scott about it, he makes his own, so he has more experiance then most all of us.

Im working a +4 first gen swinger right now should have some pic next weekend as it thanks giving up here in canada this weekend

You know I live in Canada to right.. lol
Tomorrow is turkey day for me! :D

But yah, I'm having a swinger custom made for me. It's going to utilize the Banshee ASR round style carrier, and he'll make it at any length I want.
The only bummer is I have to run a 40mm axle, and the brake/sprocket hubs. No big deal really.

But a stock 1st gen swinger is 19" inches, and I was actually thinking of have'n one made at 24"? Which of course would be a +5..
I wonder if 1 inch would make a really big difference?

A plus 5! That thing will be crazy long. Hell, mine being a plus 3 for my bike is 22, and I think that would work for you, too. Maybe put some 6 ply, heavier tires up front to help with the weight displacement.

I spent to much time make'n this quad lighter to start adding more weight back now. I plan on making it lighter yet.. lol
Do you have pictures of your swinger on the quad Pat?
I would like to get a visual reference, just to see how long a 22" really is..

I might go +4... That'll be a total length of 23". I know for sure that the swinger I get has gotta be +3 or longer.. It's such a hard decision??

I want it to be fairly long so I don't wind up on my ass at WOT, but I also still wanna be able to ride it around anywhere I go. So it puts me in a tough position.
I wanna be able to ride it diversely, and not have to swap swingarms to ride a new location.. lol

No don't even have it yet. Lol. Look on ebay for warrior 350 extended swingarm. There is a company called the swingarmshop that makes em in plus 2, 4, 6, & 8in lengths. Have to use the stock carrier, but I have no issues with it. An actuall plus 4 1st gen swinger would be the max for trails I think.

That's too funny dude! I'd like to have the round style carrier, but, for that price, I can live with the original. It works very well for me anyway.

Well what he's make'n me is a banshee swinger with a warrior length pivot, for $250.
But the real cost will come when I have to swap the complete rearend over to banshee parts.
I figured it out that the whole deal with a tusk axle, the carrier, and the sprocket/brake hubs. Should only set me back around $600 bucks.

That's not bad at all. Sure, I'd like to have the round carrier, and to only have to loosen 2 bolts and turn the carrier would be great. But, the stocker works fine for me, and I can at least upgrade to a duel row bearing carrier, for some better performance. I've had to beef up my carrier's mounting bolts because of the pervious owner, so it never comes loose now. I'll probably have to drill out the mounting holes on the new swinger, and weld nuts to it so I can use my carrier.

Well if I was in a bind I would just go with the stock setup... But!!
Did you see the pics of how the 490 pretzeled my adjusters? And it twisted the carrier mount.. I need something a bit beefier. lol

Saw, but don't remember. Lol. A warrior wont twist it like a 490 could. I still think something was a miss with your carrier for it to do that.

Well it coulda been because my chain was to tight? Then I thought that maybe my sprockets aren't lined up properly?

But in the end.. I think the 490 just had to much torque for that 25 year old swinger to handle. lol
