This might sound really stupid but did you check the fuel switch on the bottom of the gas tank? Mine did a really similar thing a while ago, it took a while for me to notice that the fuel switch was in the "off" position. It sounds like it's starting and just sucking the fuel out of the lines.

k guys i know its been a long time since i last posted but it still has not started. my new batter didnt do anything. i'm going to check if it makes a spark. only thing it has sit all winter. i'm thinking about replacing the coils and checking the fuel switch. i also think the batter does not hold a charge. same exact thing happens with the battery in my riding mower...does not hold a charge. not sure whats the deal here but they do sit in the back of our garage which is very humid and cold. i'll let ya guys know keep the ideas coming

nevermind it does hold a charge. i cleaned out the gas can and filled it with fresh gas...still dont start. i did take off the spark plug boot and test the spark and did not get a spark. not sure if what i was testing it with was making contact though. i'll retry tomorrow

First I want to get one thing starit, when you say it trys to start, is it cranking???? ( you know motor spinning) or do you just hear a click. If it's a new battery and the quad just clicks, try banging the starter solinoid or do what DS said and use a screw driver to cross the two terminals. If it's cranking then do the spark test, I usually just pull the plug, connect it back to the boot and let it lay on motor and what for spark. If your sure it's not getting spark use a volt meter to check the terminals at the coil, if you have voltage the coils no good, if no voltage then the CDI is no good.

well before it was only clicking. now that i replaced batter, it is cranking. i'm pretty sure its the coil but i'm going to take it to dealership to have it fixed so i dont **** anything up. i'll test the voltage still just to see what the problem is
